This website provides information for renal patients, their partners and families, health care professionals and anyone else who is interested in kidney disease. It includes information not only on physical aspects of kidney failure - how the kidneys function, what happens when they don’t, and the treatments available - but also on wider issues such as emotional, social and financial implications. In 2002, the East Midlands Renal Network (EMRN) was created. It adopted the operating principles of a managed clinical network with a structure, membership and function designed to allow successful planning and delivery of renal services. The principles, membership and terms of reference of the EMRN were agreed and ratified by the relevant Strategic Health Authorities and this approach was subsequently endorsed by the renal NSF The Leicester Kidney Care Appeal, which aims to raise funding for kidney research in Leicester, and for ventures to improve the quality of life for kidney patients (for example the purchase of exercise bikes for use by patients while undergoing haemodialysis) has now set up its own web site. The site includes the latest research & innovations in patient care as well as details of fundraising events. UK Kidney Research Association Founded in 1961, Kidney Research UK is the leading UK charity funding research that focuses on the prevention, treatment and management of kidney disease. The charity also dedicates its work to improving patient care and raising awareness of kidney disease. British Kidney Patients Association The work of the BKPA falls roughly into two halves engendered by two quite separate needs; on the one hand the material and physical needs of the patients and their relatives and on the other the necessity to lobby for more and improved facilities and increased Governmental funding so that all patients may benefit from improvements in technology and pharmaceutical achievements. At the same time it is necessary to create through the media awareness of the need for kidney donors and all problems resulting from the lack of them. The NKF is the only UK charity run by Kidney patients for kidney patients. Its aim is to promote, throughout the United Kingdom, the best renal medical practice and treatment, the health of persons suffering from Kidney Disease or Renal failure, and to support the related needs of those relatives and friends who care for kidney patients. We are a registered Charity whose main aim is to raise awareness of the need for organ donation in the UK and worldwide. Through organising sports and social events for transplant recipients Transplant Sport UK shows the benefits of organ donation and prove that you can lead a normal and active life again after transplantation. Lincolnshire Patient Association The Lincolnshire Kidney Patients Association was formed some years ago by kidney patients living in the county and those close to it. We have approximately 300 members in Lincolnshire. The Lincolnshire KPA has three officers: Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer they are supported in their roles by a dedicated committee of about 10 people; made up of patients on dialysis, transplanted patients, patient carers, family members and some who have no connection to kidney disease. Addenbrooke's Kidney Patient Association Addenbrooke's Kidney
Patients Association was founded in 1975 by a small group of patients; we now
have members throughout East Anglia and beyond. Our membership includes
dialysis, pre-dialysis and transplant patients as well as relatives, friends,
nursing and medical staff. The main purpose of AKPA is to help improve the
quality of life for patients at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge who are
suffering from kidney disease and to inform the public of patients’ needs. We
are involved in a wide range of activities including occasional social events
and talks by hospital staff on medical advances. The Association campaigns to
improve conditions for kidney patients and to promote the Organ Donor Register.
